What to Expect
- Your child will be given an assessment to determine his or her strengths and weaknesses. The session will last approximately one hour.
- We will review the assessment results with you before the second session. This will give us an opportunity to discuss the results and plan for the next three upcoming sessions.
- A specific tutoring plan will be developed for your child.
- We will provide you feedback after each tutoring session.
- We will make any necessary updates to tutoring plan after reviewing the feedback with you.
- We will continually monitor and report on your child’s progress through the use of leveled word lists, running records and leveled reading passages.
- An initial assessment in the first tutoring session.
- After that, an interactive, hour-long tutoring session with an experienced elementary teacher.
- Exploration and learning through the use of manipulatives, for example letter tiles, magnetic letters, word bingo, concrete objects for sorts, personal white boards and many more things that are fun to work with!
- An hour long session which will include all aspects of reading instruction: phonemes, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Word study will also be addressed.
